Aretha Hudson

May 26, 1940 — February 8, 2025

Mrs. Aretha Hudson, age 84 of Kansas City, Ks., flew to the angels early Saturday morning February 8th, 2025 in Brunswick, Ga. She was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Jim Chandler and Laura Wiggins on May 26th, 1940. The youngest of seven siblings, Aretha’s parents moved the family to Kansas City, Ks where she and her siblings thrived and received their education. Later in life, Aretha worked in housekeeping for a hotel, as well as for a local family. She worked for a company as a laundress and also worked in the school cafeteria.

Aretha met her future husband, Albert Hudson, Jr. while waiting at the bus stop after work. She had accidentally dropped her lipstick while trying to put it back into her purse and Albert picked it up for her. That was the start of many conversations, future dating, and eventually marriage. Together, they raised three children.

Aretha enjoyed working anything puzzles; jigsaws or crosswords and word searches. She also loved collecting assorted writing pens. She enjoyed spending time with her children and would occasionally travel with them to Las Vegas or to local casinos.

Although she had no specific church home, Aretha was a woman of strong faith and believed in God’s purpose and timing. She reminded loved ones that our ways are not God’s ways and to trust Him. She was warm, kind and thoughtful and she had a laugh that was extremely contagious. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Aretha is now reunited in her Heavenly Homecoming with her father, Jim; her mother, Laura; stepmother Annie Mae; her husband, Albert; her brothers, Arthur, Henry, and Sidney; her sisters, Leuviner, Lillie Bell, Willie Bell, close family friend Murdice and many other family members and friends.

Aretha leaves to cherish her fondest memories: her son, Donnell; her daughters, Dorothy and Lucille; her brother, Roosevelt; nieces, Annette, Sheila, Latreece; her nephews, Edward, Sanders, Little Henry, and Derrick; her close family friends, Mary, Miss Vera, Miss Erica, Kaye and Larry, Miss Bea, Miss Loretta, Miss Cooperwood, Mr. Greg and Miss Doris, Crystal, Elane, Sharon, Queenie, Alkeisha, Mike, Toaery, Tammy, Beatrice, Miss Donna, Meiko, and Shimeka; and numerous other family members and friends.
