Billie Kay (Clark) Thomas, born on June 16, 1947, passed away on June 8, 2023 at South Georgia Health Systems, Brunswick, Georgia
She was preceded in death by her mother, Vera (Strickland) Clark, and her father, James Fleming Clark, as well as her brother, Leroy Bud Nichols.
Kay was born in Brunswick, Georgia on June 16, 1947. Growing up in Sterling and Brunswick, she graduated from Glynn Academy in 1965. She married Tommy Thomas in July that year and they moved to Camden County in 1970. They became members of the Kingsland First Baptist Church where Kay faithfully served in several organizations including the Women’s Missional Union (WMU), Girls in Actions (GAs), Vacation Bible School (VBS), and as a Sunday School teacher. Kay loved children of all ages, but her greatest joy was caring for the precious babies in the nursery. She lovingly rocked hundreds of them over many decades.
Growing up on Georgia’s golden coast, Kay loved going to the beach and searching for sand dollars, shells, and shark’s teeth. She had the patience of Job searching every shore from Myrtle Beach to Daytona and most of the Florida panhandle. Those who loved Kay would describe her as kind, sweet, loving, caring, and giving. But she would beat you at most card games and you would want her on your team in competition.
Most of all, Kay loved her family and was thrilled when she met her biological family in 2008. She was blessed with the family of her childhood, the family she gained through marriage, and then her “Hill” family which made her feel complete with the closeness of her own sisters who she loved dearly.
Kay is survived by her loving husband, Tommy Wendel Thomas and their two daughters: Dana (Bob) Smith and Beverly Thomas and her grandchildren: Mitch Smith and Hannah Fry all of Kingsland. She is also survived by her two brothers: Charles Clark of Millington, TN and Gene (Diane) Clark of Sebring, FL; her sisters: Louise (Pat) Brandenburg of Garmacy, MO; Shirley (Pat – deceased) Morris of Lake Marion, SC; Deborah (Randy) Latham of Ambrose, GA, and many, many precious nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 at Kingsland First Baptist Church. Visitation with the family is at 2:00 pm and funeral service is at 3:00 pm.
