Mrs. Catherine Grady Sullivan, age 81, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, February 4th, 2022 at her home in St. Marys, GA. Mrs. Sullivan (Kay) was born September 16th, 1940 in Newport, RI to the late Michael and Ada Grady.
Kay received her bachelor’s degree in Education from Salve Regina University and taught Home Economics to special needs children before marrying James R. Sullivan Jr. on September 6th, 1969. She spent the rest of her life dedicated to her husband, her four beautiful daughters, and the many others that called her “Mom”. Kay was ever-present at the girls' sporting events cheering as loud as she could or helping with Girl Scouts, church or school fundraisers and activities. She was actively involved in the Catholic Church, even being awarded 'Catholic Woman of the Year' in 1983.
Kay and James loved to travel and took trips all over the world, even living in Italy for a time when they were first married. Later in life they enjoyed taking trips on the Mississippi Queen paddlewheel steamboat so they could sit out on deck and view the beautiful river towns as they passed. They also embarked on many cross-country rides on Amtrak. Sitting in Amtrak’s ‘viewing car’, they loved to watch the countryside and wave to the people along the route. Kay’s favorite part of the trips was always meeting and getting to know the people along the way. At home, she loved tending to her flower garden and was a HUGE Jeopardy! fan. So much so, that she even had an alarm set on her phone so she could stop what she was doing to watch. Those who knew Kay, know she enjoyed her coffee and was never without a cup in hand. So, think of her with your next cup and know she now has endless refills!
Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her children: Katherine “KT” Sullivan of St. Marys, GA, Patricia Ann “Patty” Sullivan (Jeff Zawislak) of Kingsland, GA, Sheila Sullivan of Essex, NY, and Julimarie (Chad) Wistey of MT, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews all over the country.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Sullivan also joins her husband, James, and her brothers Raymond Grady and William Grady in Heaven.
