Ms. Clifford Charlene Gay Smith , age 80 of St. Marys, Ga. passed away on Saturday, April 20 th , 2019 at the Life Care Center in Jacksonville, Fl.
Ms. Smith
was born on May 12 th , 1938 in Jacksonville, Fl. to the late Charles
and Myra Gay.
Ms. Smith
was employed at the Kraft Bag Plant from 1960-1971. She served the community in
social services from 1974-1992 with Coastal Georgia Area CAA, Inc. where she
served as a case worker and Head Start teacher. Ms. Smith received an
Associates Degree in Child Development during that time.
Ms. Smith
enjoyed singing, sewing, drawing, writing poetry and cooking. She was dedicated
to her family and loved spending time with them. She was a member of St. Marys
Church and a resident of Coastal Senior Care.
Ms. Smith is survived by her children, Jan (Billy) Gillette,
Theresa Nelson, and Tony (Jackie) Crews, all of Kingsland, Ga.; her
grandchildren, Philip (Carisa) Nelson, Jr. of Fayetteville, Ga., Mark
(Jennifer) Crews of Kingsland, Ga., Kristen (Josh Thomas) Gillette of Ruskin,
Fl., Devin (Olivia Valente) Gillette of Rincon, Ga.; her great-grandchildren,
Elsie Lamb and Baer Thomas; her great great-grandson, Elijah Lamb; her nieces
and nephew, Jimmy Wells, Jeanette Ballew and Juliet Kicklighter.
Besides
her parents, Ms. Smith was preceded in passing by her daughter, Scheree Crews
Johnson; her son, Bobby Smith; and her sister, Judy Gay.
Calling hours for Ms. Smith’s family will be from 2 pm to 3 pm Wednesday, April 24 th , 2019 at St. Marys Church, 101 Pine Street in St. Marys, Ga. Funeral Services will follow immediately at 3 pm at the church with Reverend Randall Dockery, Bishop Adam Jones and Reverend Rick Douylliez presiding. Interment will be at Pineview Cemetery in Folkston, Ga. Tony Crews, Billy Gillette, Philip Nelson, Jr., Mark Crews, Devin Gillette, and David Young will serve as Pallbearers.
