Charles Grayson Day, Sr. of Kingsland, Georgia, age 88, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Grayson was born on February 13
th
, 1936, in Hortense, Ga. to the late John Dewey and Flora Popwell Day.
Grayson spent his early years in Browntown, and later in Brunswick, Georgia. He graduated from Glynn Academy in 1953 and then served in the Army National Guard for eight years. During this time, he married his sweetheart Patsy. Grayson then obtained his BBA from Georgia State University while working for C & S Bank in Atlanta, Georgia. He and his family returned home to continue his banking career in Brunswick and then in Kingsland to serve as President and CEO of the State Bank of Kingsland for 15 years.
Grayson loved his family, his friends, his church, and his community fiercely. He attended Kingsland First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and trustee. He travelled with the church on several mission trips and ministered to the homebound.
He was a proud member of the Kingsland Lion’s Club for over 50 years and was president for several terms. Grayson was a loyal Gideon and witnessed to hundreds of Camden County school children by placing New Testaments in their hands. He was active in his community in so many ways, including the United Way, March of Dimes, the American Cancer Society, the Okefenokee Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, and the Camden County Public Library.
He enjoyed vacations, local and abroad, with his family, group trips with friends, family gatherings, and cheering on the Atlanta Braves. Mostly though, he was happiest spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His love for them was pure and complete.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Bush Day of Kingsland, Ga.; his children, Crystal (Bruce) Ebbets, Valerie (Bob) Houghteling, all of St. Marys, Ga. and Dr. C. Grayson (Amanda) Day, Jr. of Kingsland, Ga.; his grandchildren, Victoria Ebbets (Jason McCrady), Drew Houghteling, Cole Houghteling, Kayla Day, Molly Day, and Taylor Day.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Reba Ammons, Ruby Day, Betty Day, Wayne Day, Bobby Day, and Jarman Glenn Day; and granddaughter, Celeste Ebbets.
A visitation will be held from 3 pm to 4 pm Wednesday, June 12
th
, 2024 at Kingsland First Baptist Church in Kingsland, Ga. Funeral Services will begin at 4 pm at the church with Pastor Vernon Dillingham and Pastor Brian Parker presiding. A private family interment will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland, Ga.
