Mr. Charles C. Mote, Sr.

Mr. Charles C. Mote, Sr., age 93, of Griffin, GA, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Mote was born in Carroll County, GA, on May 31, 1923, to the late Charles T. Mote and the late Ola Williamson Mote. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years, Rachael Mote; son, Charles C. Mote, Jr.; daughter, Margaret Ola Mote; step-daughter and son-in-law, Lois Stone and Robert; son-in-law, Jimmy D. Ritchey; and several siblings. Mr. Mote was the owner of Mote’s Sewing Center; a member of Carver Road Baptist Church; and a member of the VFW 5480 and the American Legion.
Mr. Mote served in the United States Army during World War II in the Continental United States and European African Theater of Operations. He served 3 years as Military Police. He received the American Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
In 1951, while attending college in LaGrange, Mr. Mote was hired by Singer; within 3 months, he was promoted to manager. He received many awards while working for Singer, including the Customer Service award for outstanding service in 1979. Mr. Mote retired from Singer after 28 years.
After his first retirement, Mr. Mote opened Mote Sewing Center. He successfully ran that store until 1986, when he retired for good.
Mr. Mote was very active in his community, both in LaGrange and Griffin. In 1956, he threw a no hitter for the Lagrange News fast-pitch softball team. In all, he threw several no-hitters in his softball career. He received a Volunteer Award for Outstanding Service to the Community for the 2000 Spalding County Senior Games.
His greatest achievement was winning the Greatest Dad Award.
After retirement, Mr. Mote dedicated his time to eating, sleeping and playing golf. In 1998, he shot a hole in one on the 8th hole at the Griffin City Park Golf Course. His son Charles Mote, Jr. and Jamie Willis were on hand to witness this feat. Remarkably, on March 25, 2000, he got another hole in one, 2 years after the first one. At age 76, while playing in a tournament at the Fieldston County Club in Conyers, GA, Mr. Mote shot his second hole in one, leading his team, consisting of Gary Vaughn, Tim Hornsby and Charles Mote, Jr. to a first place finish.
Survivors include wife of 26 years Mary Feltman Mote, whom Mr. Mote firmly believes was a gift to him from God; step-daughters, Doris Ritchey of Belleville, Nebraska and Janet Mask of Fayetteville, GA; step-sons and their wives, Tony Richard of Griffin, GA, Terry Lamar Cox and Cindy of Newnan, GA, and Donald Ray Cox, Jr. and Betsy of Griffin, GA; brother and sister-in-law, J. C. Mote and Ruby of Oakwood, Georgia; six grandchildren, over a dozen great grandchildren, many great-great grandchildren and three great-great-great grandchildren; and special great grandchildren, Tessa Cox and Dillion Cox.
