Mr. David Samuel Smith
, age 85 of Kingsland, Ga. passed away in the late morning hours of Monday, November 20
th
, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his beloved family.
Mr. Smith was born on May 24 th , 1938 in Charlton County, Ga. He is the son of the late James William & Phoebe Bashie Hendrix Smith.
Mr. Smith served in the United States Navy from 1956-1960. Mr. Smith met the love of his life, Clara Jean Black and they were wed in Nahunta, Ga. on May 22 nd , 1961. They have shared life and love together for 62 years. He was a long-time employee of the printing department of the Kraft Bag division in St. Marys, Ga. He was also an associate of Coldwell Banker Towne & Country Realty. Mr. Smith was a former Sunday school teacher and superintendent of the Church of God of Prophecy in St. Marys, Ga. He was passionate about fishing, watching the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves games, Westerns of both TV series and movies, and keeping up with the world through the Fox News channel. One of his greatest joys was playing and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Clara Jean Smith; their two daughters, Pamela Smith Lee & Patricia Smith (Alan) Drury; grandchildren, Renee Lee (Adam) Stein, Chad (Jenny) Drury & Jenna Drury (Edd) Haddock; great-grandchildren, Laci Drury (Trey) Sellers, Ali Morgan, Tucker & Waylon Drury and Madden & Cash Haddock; his brothers, Robert (Jeanette) Smith and John Eldon (Ann) Smith; his sister, Millie Wilke and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Mr. Smith joins his brother, Lester Owen Smith, Sr. and his sister, Waunell ‘Nell’ Smith Roberson in Heaven.
Services for Mr. Smith will be held at the pavilion of Greenlawn Cemetery in Waycross, Ga. on Saturday, November 25 th , 2023. Visitation with the family will be held there from 1-2 pm. Funeral services will begin at 2pm with Pastor Randall Dockery of Saint Mary’s Church in St. Marys, Ga. presiding. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
