Mr. Emidio Joseph DeBenedetto, Jr., age 69 a resident of Camden County, Ga., passed away on the morning of Thursday, February 4th, 2021 at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, Ga.
Mr. DeBenedetto was born on November 24th, 1951 in Queens, NY to Emidio and Elizabeth DeBenedetto.
His family described him, “Warm, Funny, give-you-the -shirt -off -of -his -back kinda guy.
A husband, father, a Poppa, and Georgia Bulldog.
He loved his family fiercely and nothing brought him more joy than seeing his kids and grandkids kids grow, thrive and live a life of happiness.
Joe was a product of hard times. Times that produced a man determined to make sure he provided the way for his family to have the life of their dreams.
A devoted husband of nearly 50 years. A man of faith and of family, his greatest pastime was cheering on his beloved Georgia Bulldogs. Win or lose. There was no off Season to Joe. There were only game weeks, and weeks he would just need to watch the old games.
He could tell you how well they recruited, potential odds, and forecast the next season to come. His eyes would brighten, and arms start gesturing excitedly explaining the possibilities to family, friends or any stranger that happened to wander by with a Georgia bulldog T-shirt on.
The only topic he was more passionate about or as eager to share, was his pride in his children and the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren they blessed him with.
He loved spending time with his wife of 47 years. His constant companion and champion, Lucy.
In the later seasons of his life, monthly camping trips were spent enjoying the company of their friends over a warm meal and the familiar music of bluegrass.
Once a year they would take a trip to the mountains of North Carolina, where he said he felt the presence of God in that Smoky Mountain Air.
Though he would have never called it such, he did his own type of meditation. Whether it was cutting his grass each week (whether it needed it or not) or washing his cars till they shone like the sun. (No one could clean a truck like Joe), it eased his mind to talk to God and to those he had lost in his life, while lost in these tasks. The peace of mind of a job well done, and the peace of soul given to him, by the time to reflect was enough to keep him on schedule no matter the season, weather, or how dirty the Truck.
A man of ritual, Joe and Lucy would go on dinner dates every day. Hitting the same spots, on the same days each week. She, ordering for them both, and he always finishing at least 10 minutes before her. Joe would then push back from the table, lean back and wait patiently for her to let him know she was ready.
His time on Earth may be done, but it is certain Joe is now just patiently waiting for his forever dinner date.”
Mr. DeBenedetto is survived by his wife, Lucy DeBenedetto of Kingsland, Ga.; his daughter, Beth (Charles) Jones of Fredericksburg, Va.; his son, Gilford (Lisa) DeBenedetto of St. Marys, Ga.; his sisters, Elizabeth (Frank) Faulisi of Davenport, Fl. and Winnie (Herb) Quick of Princeton, WV.; his brother, Patrick DeBenedetto of Hortense, Ga.; his grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Parrish, Shelby (Cecil) Waters, Clark DeBenedetto, and Hudson DeBenedetto; his great-granddaughter, Estelle “Stella” Waters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
