November 21, 1924 – September 21, 2016

Evelyn Lulu Blackmon, affectionately known as E. B., passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of September 21, 2016 in her current hometown of Franklin, Tennessee. Born in Forsyth, Georgia on November 21, 1923, Evelyn was the first-born daughter of the late Jesse Council and Cleo Stallings. The eldest of seven children, Evelyn was lovingly considered the matriarch of the family.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her faithful husband, Billy T. Blackmon and by her loving son, Joseph S. Bendek of Rome, Georgia. She is survived by her siblings, J. Edward Stallings (Avie) of Griffin, Dorothy Hickerson (Ed, deceased) of Stockbridge, Charles L. Stallings (Mary Alice) of Decatur, the Rev. Jim Stallings (Barbara) of Loganville, Wallace Stallings (Carol) of Morristown, Tennessee, and Marty Gilbert (David, deceased) of Seymour, Tennessee.

Also surviving are Evelyn’s daughter, Candice L. Bendek of Franklin, Tennessee, her son Kirk D. Blackmon (Daye) of Griffin, Georgia and her daughter-in-law, Mary T. Bendek of Rome, Georgia. Evelyn was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren including Jackie (Paul), Christie (Mark), Tucker (Kelly), Hope (Jonathan), Bryan (Tiffany) and Courtney. Evelyn was the great grandmother to Matthew, Olivia, Taylor, Landon, Noah, Ella, Ayden, Liam, Camden, and Sophie.

Establishing her roots in Griffin, Georgia in the early 1950’s, Evelyn raised a family while owning and running her own beauty salon. Known as a consummate home-maker, baker and cook, Evelyn will be especially remembered for her love of family and Christ.
