Mr. Everett Lee Chalkley, age 88, of Griffin, GA passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Brightmoor Nursing Home in Griffin.
Mr. Chalkley was born on April 10, 1925 in Fayette County to the late Clifford Chalkley and the late Maggie Bannister Chalkley. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served during World War II on the U. S. Potomac and the U. S. S. Williamsburg from 1943 – 1946. Mr. Chalkley was also very proud to have been able to serve on President Franklin Roosevelt’s Yacht. He was a lifelong member of McIntosh Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon.
He was also preceded in death by his wife Ruby Giddens Chalkley, and sister, Agnes Reid.
Mr. Chalkley is survived by his daughters, Deborah Boyt and Cecil, and Pam Watts; grandchildren, Robert Fain Hicks IV and Kereth, Leigh Ellen Watts Magness and Jordan, and Lindsey Elizabeth Watts; great-grandchildren, Mary Everett Hicks, Hadley Elizabeth Hicks, and Hudson Lee Magness; sister-in-law, Angie Giddens; and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Mr. Chalkley would like to express their deep gratitude to the Woods Assisted Living, Brightmoor Hospice, and Brightmoor Nursing Center for all the love and care given to Everett during his time with them.
