Fay LaVelle Lentz, a long-time resident of St. Marys, Ga., passed away after a short illness at the age of 94. Fay was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, John D. Lentz; her parents, Martha and Edward Knemeyer; her twin brother, Ray, and siblings, Mildred, Beatrice, Willie, and Dale.
She is survived by her four sons, John David, Frank (Helen), Kevin (Lynn) and Paul (Laurie) Lentz; her grandchildren, James Lentz, Adam (Erin) Lentz, Leslie (Akeem) Stovall, Christopher Lentz, Leah (Major) Herron, and Jon Paul (Erin) Lentz; her precious great-grandchildren, Alex, Aiden, Addison, Greyson, Harper, Allectra, Lena, and Wilder; along with many nieces and nephews.
Fay was born in Illinois, but quickly became a true southern lady when she and Johnny had the good fortune to move south. Her interest in nursing developed at an early age, and her smile, industriousness and pleasant attitude led to her being recognized as an outstanding employee as a Nursing Assistant at Gilman Hospital. She was an active member of St. Marys United Methodist Church for over 67 years. She was a member of the Wesley Sunday School Class, serving as class secretary and enjoyed lifetime friendships with her classmates.
She was a loving mother and an excellent cook with an extensive collection of cookbooks. Family favorites were her delicious poundcakes, her French toast, and Rice St. Paul. Fay had a keen sense of humor and delighted in making her grandchildren laugh. She kept a notebook entitled “cute sayings”, so she was never without new jokes to tell. She also loved music and enjoyed playing her keyboard. She loved card games and was still winning at Rummikub up until the end. She spread kindness wherever she went, and never met a stranger. She will be in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Marys United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or to the charity of your choice.
