Mrs. Frances Ollie Steelman Brown , 90 of Kingsland passed away quietly on the afternoon of Tuesday August 24th, 2010, at the Southeast Georgia Health System’s Camden Campus in St. Marys.
Born on October 25th, 1919 in Yadkin County, North Carolina, Mrs. Brown is the daughter of the late Avery Cleveland and Fannie Adams Steelman. After high school, she worked for Western Electric in Winston-Salem, NC. She later met and married Clayton Edward Brown. They traveled together during his military career and retired to Camden County in 1975. She became an active member of the Kingsland First Baptist Church and was a faithful member of the Joy Sunday School class. She kept the church nursery for many years, was a participant of the church’s Homebound Ministries, preparing many meals for the sick and the elderly, and regularly visited with the residents at the St. Marys Convalescence Center. It was said by her family that Mrs. Brown had a true servant’s heart and loved her church family. She will be dearly missed.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her children, Tonya Barrera of Orange Park, FL, and Randy and Deidre Brown of Ocala, FL.; her brothers, Earl and Bob Steelman, both of Winston-Salem, NC; and her grandchildren, Lauren Brown of Kennesaw, Ga., Jacob Barrera of Orange Park FL., Clayton Brown of Ocala, FL., and Jennie Mathews of Jacksonville, FL,. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Brown was also preceded in passing by her sisters, Kate Wagner and Esther Queen, and her brother, Junior Steelman.
Calling hours for Mrs. Brown will be from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, August 26th, 2010 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday August 27th, 2010 at the Chapel of Kingsland First Baptist Church with Pastor John Jenkins and Rev. Vernon Dillingham presiding over the service. Active pallbearers will be Jacob Barrera, Dale Williams, Henry Buchanan, Josh Filveous, Mark Crosby and Brad Crosby. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Joy Sunday School Class. The committal service will be held afterwards in Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Homebound Ministries of Kingsland First Baptist Church, 295 E. Chester Av., Kingsland, Ga. 31548.
