Francis E Fowler, Jr. (Buddy) lost his 3 plus year struggle with colon cancer and passed from this life to his pain free life with his Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 10th at the Golden Isles Hospice Center.
Surviving him are his wife of 52 years, Laurie, his daughter, Holly Cottrell (Chris) with granddaughter Lilah; His son Bryce Fowler (Ashley) with grandchildren Cameron and Brylynn. Buddy was born in Milledgeville, Georgia on February 2, 1948, graduated from Washington County High School Sandersville, Georgia in 1967. He attended Southern Tech in Marietta and Brunswick Junior College. He worked for the Georgia Highway Department surveying and laying out ground work for Interstate 95 between Brunswick and Jacksonville; and as a Foreman as Shepherd Construction on the Golden Isles Parkway and projects in Jesup, on I-20 and North Carolina. Buddy lived on Jekyll Island for a few years with his mother Martha Bowdoin Fowler Mills and step-father, Shalor Mills. He is survived by his sister Joy Banks (Rill) sister Gay Gowler and brother Billy Fowler. He enjoyed surfing, fishing hunting and in later life camping with his family and his vegetable garden at his home in Woodbine. Buddy was a deacon at First Baptist Church Woodbine from 1985 to 2020 when he received Deacon Emeritus status. Over his years of service to his church family he served as Sunday School Director Training Union Director, Sunday School Teacher and worked with the Youth Department.
A special thanks to the Hospice Home Nurse Michael Relyea and CNA Roxy Flowers who were of great help to him during the last few painful months of his life and helped him remain at home as long as he could. He was a special person and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at Thursday January 12th at First Baptist Church of Woodbine at 2:00. Visitation will be a 1:00 with burial to follow immediately after the services at Homeward Cemetery Waverly, Georgia.
