Mr. Frank Smith , age 78 of E. Dillingham St. in St. Marys, passed away in the late evening of Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Southeast Georgia Health System’s Camden Campus.
Mr. Smith was born in Bacon County, GA on October 9, 1934. He is the son of the late Claude Earl and Grace Carter Smith. Mr. Smith moved to Camden County in 1958 and has made this his home ever since. He was employed at Gilman Paper Company, where he worked for 44 years. Besides his family and friends, Frank’s greatest passion was the Camden County Wildcats. Frank worked tirelessly for years raising money to support young athletes. He is often referred to as “Mr. Wildcat.”
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Grace; his daughters, Jennifer Smith Forster and her husband Dan of Social Circle, and Jill Smith Minnick and her husband Kevin of St. Marys; his sons, Ron and Russ Smith, both of St. Marys; his sisters, Juanita Wright and her husband, Herman of St. Marys, and Helen Byrd of Waycross; his grandchildren, Caleb Smith of St. Marys, Lanier and Trent Forster, both of Social Circle, and Clary and Beckley Minnick, both of St. Marys.
Besides his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in passing by his brothers, Earl, Allen, and Billy Smith.
Calling hours for Mr. Smith will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held starting at 11 a.m. Monday, December 3rd at St. Marys First Baptist Church with Pastor Steven Kegley presiding. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys. Memorial contributions may be made to the Frank Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund at any Citizens Bank location.
