George Burger

George Henry Burger, LT COL USAF (Ret.), was born on January 19, 1947, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Nola Bradley and George Henry Burger, Jr. George stepped into the arms of His Savior on Saturday, May 22, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty Roysden Burger; daughter, Heather Burger Lawson (Donald) of Senoia, GA; son, Christopher Burger (Amanda) of Brookhaven, GA; and son, Matthew Burger (Bettina) of Oconomowoc, WI; nine grandchildren (Layton Lawson (Amanda), Jack Lawson, Ethan Burger, Sarah Lawson, Willa Burger, Emma Burger, Rocky Burger, Josef Steindorf and Robert Steindorf) and two great grandchildren (Kyler Salinas and Kinsley Lawson); sisters, Sue Strait and Mary Pifer (Steve); and nieces and nephews he loved unconditionally (Melissa Lonsberry, Amy Lonsberry Jolley (Kris), Bill Strait (Celestin), Jill Strait Estes (John), Jason Pifer, Nicole Pifer Leible (Tim), Wendy Kent Newbern (Joey), LeRoy Kent (Trina), Richard Kent, David Brown (Joy), Nathan Roysden, Kevin Roysden (Bre), Philip Roysden, and Robert Roysden).

George was loved and admired by all who had the pleasure of knowing him for his wisdom, wit and profound love of the Lord.

George had a distinguished military career and served on active duty in the United States Air Force for 25 years. George accepted Christ as his Savior in March 1976 and loved to share how the church pew was “spring loaded” that day. He also relished in the fact he and Betty were baptized together that evening. George's favorite pastimes during his retirement years were studying his Bible, a good round of golf and spending time with his family. In the fall of 2019, George and Betty had the opportunity to make a lifelong dream come true and moved to Saint Marys, Georgia where they were able to take long walks on the Saint Marys Riverfront or the nearby beaches of Fernandina at least once a week, and George was able to continue enjoying a round of golf regularly.

George loved history and loved to incorporate Biblical history into every Sunday School lesson he taught over the years. George was also an active member of The Gideons International for more than 40 years. He loved distributing copies of God’s Word.

George leaves behind a legacy of faith and unconditional love, which he showered upon his children and grandchildren at every opportunity.
