George Carter

Mr. George Mitchel “Murphy” Carter , age 70, of Kingsland, Ga. passed away surrounded by family on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 19 th , 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fl.
Mr. Carter was born February 18 th , 1947 in Waycross, Ga. to the late Buster and Betty Carter. His family moved to Woodbine in the early ‘50s. He was educated in the Camden County School System where he graduated from Camden County High School in 1966. One of his fondest memories was playing basketball with the Camden Hurricanes. After high school, he worked for Gilman Paper Company Kraft Bag Division in St. Marys until they moved operations to Eastman, Georgia. Then he went to work with sub-base Boss Contractors at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base until around 2007. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He spent many seasons in the woods and water with his two sons instilling in them a passion for the outdoors. He was an avid fan of Nascar and always looked forward to race day. He was loved and respected by many and will be missed deeply.
Mr. Carter is survived by his sons, Mike Carter of Kingsland, Ga. and Sammie Carter of Iowa, La.; his sister, Debbie Peeples of Kingsland, Ga.; his brother, Phillip Carter of Woodbine, Ga.; his grandchildren, Austin Carter, Ashtyn Carter, and Alexia Carter, all of Kingsland, Ga; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for Mr. Carter will be from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, September 22 nd , 2017 at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 23 rd , 2017 at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland, Ga. with Pastor Seymour Groover, III presiding.
