Mr. Gideon Phaizon Mays, age 18, of Griffin, GA, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2014.
Mr. Gideon “Gid” Mays was born May 30, 1996 to LeShonda Delois Berry and Gideon Jerome Mays, Jr. He departed this life on December 15, 2014. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents George and Ethel Berry, God-mother Portia “Nanny” Brown and one aunt.
Gid was a member of St. Matthews Outreach Ministries. He attended Griffin-Spalding County Public Schools. He was currently enrolled at New Horizon New Direction where he was on the basketball team. Gid loved the game of basketball. He started playing basketball at the age of five. He loved to make you laugh. Gid was a “class clown” to his classmates.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother LeShonda Berry and father Gideon J. Mays, Jr.; grandparents Christine Berry-Horton, Gideon J. Mays, Sr. and Linda Mays; and one auntie Tanya (Shawn) Shoats, all of Griffin; three sisters, Shaniya and Amiya Berry and Mignon Shoats; six brothers, Shadarius Berry, Ladarius Shoats, Cameron Shoats, Brodni Fletcher, Gy’dohn and Gizohn Mays; a special little cousin Gavin Moreland; one god-momma Towanda Berry and two god-brothers Marcus Brown and Jailyn Akins. He also leaves behind two close friends Rodney Jackson and Akeem Berry; a very “special” friend Elisha Clowers; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Gideon Phaizon Mays will be conducted on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God in Griffin. Reverend Eric Burden, Sr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 6 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home.
