Grean Thrift

November 13, 1927 — November 13, 1927

Mr. Grean “Buddy” Thrift , age 87, passed away in the morning hours of Thursday, December 4, 2014 at his residence in Woodbine, GA.
Mr. Thrift was born November 13, 1927 in Waycross, Ga. to the late Wiley and Millie Mae Carter Thrift. Mr. Thrift was a hard worker. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from Gilman Paper Company Kraft Bag Division where he worked for 30 years. In younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and listening to the dogs run cats and deer. In later years, he enjoyed working with his tractor, visiting on the front porch, napping in the sun, and going out to eat at Old Times or Okefenokee Restaurant with family and friends. Even though he never married or had any children of his own, he played a part in raising several nieces and nephews. He always came up with a special nickname for each new family member. His quiet nature and sense of humor will be remembered by many.
Mr. Thrift is survived by his sister, Lethia Faye (Glenn) Miller, of Woodbine; his brothers, Joe (Annette) Thrift, Mack Thrift, and Eddie Thrift; all of Woodbine, and two sisters-in-law Joyce Thrift of Kingsland, and Sharon Suarez of St. Marys; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Mr. Thrift joins his sisters, Agness Michelle Sowyers and Alice Jordan; and his brother, Wiley Wade Thrift, Sr. in heaven.
Calling hours for Mr. Thrift will be from 6 PM to 8 PM Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, December 7, 2014 in Colesburg Cemetery in Woodbine with Reverend Raymond Drury presiding. Pallbearers will be Josh Miller, Jared Miller, John Royce Proctor, Wade Thrift, Paul Miller and Billy Joe Hinman.
