Harriett Atkinson

July 30, 1927 — November 15, 2021

Ms. Harriett Knowles Atkinson peacefully passed away on Monday, November 15th, 2021 at the Senior Care Center in St. Marys, Ga.

She was born July 30th, 1927 in Orange, Nj. to the late Harry and Quinta Swartz.

Ms. Atkinson is survived by her son, James Knowles and his wife, Teresa of St. Marys, Ga.; her daughter, Barbara Knowles and companion, Linda of Crawfordville, Fl.; her granddaughters, Nicole Readdick and husband, Trevor of and Georgia Kay McCollum, all of St. Marys, Ga.; and her great grandson, Frazier Readdick.

Besides her parents, Ms. Atkinson was also preceded in passing by her husbands, Grover “Jim” Knowles and Felix Atkinson, Sr., and her beloved sister, Jane Henderson Forlenza.

Harriett was proud of being a member of T.L. Spence, Jr. American Legion Auxiliary Unit 31 for over 30 years, serving as president four times; a charter member of VFW Post 4995 Auxiliary; and serving on the Board of Council on Aging. She was an original staff member of Tall Timbers Research Station in Thomasville, Ga. She was an avid reader and loved mysteries.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
