Henry Jackson

August 6, 1948 — July 18, 2016

Henry Walter Jackson “Jack” was born to the late Rev. Moses Jackson and Lucille Morris Jackson on August 6, 1948 in Griffin, GA. The youngest of three children he was preceded in death by his father and brother, Andrew Jackson Sr.
At an early age, Henry joined Wolf Creek Countyline Baptist Church in Griffin and baptized by the late Rev. I. S. Jester. He was a graduate of Henry County Training School in McDonough, GA. class of 1966 where he was an outstanding member of the mighty Red Devils football program. His ability on the field, as a running-back, earned him a football scholarship to Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama where he continued to excel on the field from 1966 to 1968. In recognition of his contribution to the legacy of the institution and the athletic program, he was inducted into the Miles College Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
In 1969 he was drafted in to the U.S. Army where he served in the 1st Signal Brigade and 2nd Battalion 11th Infantry in the Vietnam War as a Supply Specialist and Armorer. He later continued his education at Atlanta Area Technical College and Griffin Technical School where he graduated with honors. He met and was joined in holy matrimony to Diane Dawson in 1972. To this union four children were born.
Henry was a civic-minded person. A few of his activities included participation with the Eastside Community neighborhood organization, Henry County Training School, the Class of ’66 planning committee, where he served as treasurer and the Miles College Alumni Association.
He was an entrepreneur and used his education and technical skills and expertise as an electrician, a plumber, and HVAC technician to further serve his community. His reputation as a professional span throughout Spalding and surrounding counties. His customers knew him for his dependability and excellent workmanship.
He was passionate about his family and they in turn adored him. He was quiet, private, easy going and ready to laugh. He did what he could to help others.
Henry “Jack” leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Diane; children, Natasha James (Malcolm) of Durham, NC.; Rashaan Jackson( finance Amber Hammond), Griffin; Jaida Jackson, Stockbridge, GA.; Jaade Jackson (Jieasha) Griffin; and Avier Lumpkin, Fort Valley, GA.; grandchildren – Robin, Michaiah, Malcolm Jr. Marcus, Riley, Rory, Reece, Tori, Joshua, Avyon, Amaya, Jaade II and Christian, an uncle, Jimmie Morris (Hazel), Riverdale, an aunt, Marie Robinson, Ellenwood; beloved brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
