Mr. Houston Lee Smith, age 56 of Kingsland, Ga., passed away on the afternoon of Monday, June 20th, 2022 in Jacksonville, Fl.
Mr. Smith was born on December 13th, 1965 in St. Marys, Ga. to Joann Smith McCollum and the late John Edward Smith, Sr.
Houston was a graduate of Camden County High School and later graduated from Valdosta State University (VSU), majoring in Political Science and minoring in History. While attending VSU, Houston was a member of the US Air Force ROTC program. After graduating from VSU, he enlisted in US Air Force in 1988 and entered service as a 2nd Lt. He became a Minuteman Missile Launch Officer. Then from August 1990 to October 1991, Houston served in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm and was honorably discharged in 1991 as a 1st Lt. After his service, he later became an over the road truck driver and has been for 18 years. For the last 5 years, Houston proudly became the owner & operator of his own company, HLS Transportation. Houston was a very kind, generous and loving man. He will always be remembered for his warm smile and huge hugs!
Mr. Smith is survived by his husband, Anthony Johansen of Kingsland, Ga; his mother, JoAnn Smith McCollum; his brother, John E. Smith, Jr.; and his sisters, Celia Kay Smith Hibner, Angela Kim Smith Byrd & Lisa Ann Smith.
A visitation will be held from 9 am to 11 am Saturday, June 25th, 2022 at Coastal Camden Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 11 am in the Woods-Wainwright Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Brian Parker presiding. Pall bearers will be Dale Campbell, Weston Campbell, Caleb Campbell, Justin Smith, Jacob Smith and Sean McGowan. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland, Ga.
