Dr. Hubert "Hugh" Ellis Herrod., age 81, of Jonesboro, GA, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015, at his home.
Dr. Herrod was born in Birmingham, Alabama on December 27, 1933, to the late Hubert Spencer Herrod and the late Aline Ellis Herrod. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Olsen. Dr. Herrod was a retired Veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of Community Bible Church in McDonough. Dr. Herrod received his M.B.A. and PhD
at Century University in California. He was an avid reader and loved working with wood in his workshop. Dr. Herrod was the former Associate Administrator at Clayton General Hospital and a former member of the Clayton Consumer Service Board for Mental Health. His passions were educating and instructing in the field of medicine.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Jean Smith Herrod of Jonesboro; sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Terri Herrod of Oklahoma, Robert Herrod of Birmingham, AL; daughters and son-in-law, Louise Herrod of Birmingham, AL, Renee and Tommy Shelton of Scottsboro, AL; 5 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Lee Holum of Birmingham, AL; nephew, Bob Olsen.
Graveside funeral services for Dr. Hugh Herrod will be held Monday, February 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. CST in Pleasantview Cemetery, 3727 Co. Rd 378, Dutton, AL 35774. Chaplain Jim Weathers will officiate.
