  Mr. Hugh Franklin Canterbury, Sr., age 86, of Jonesboro, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at home surrounded by his loved ones.
  
  Mr. Canterbury was born on April 22, 1930, in Camden, Arkansas, to the late James Franklin Canterbury and the late Myrl Scoggin Canterbury. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Norman Canterbury. Mr. Canterbury was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.  He served the Lord as Minister of Music at Second Baptist Church of Griffin and other churches in Georgia, Texas and Louisiana. He also wrote the Alma Mater for Southern Arkansas University, which is still being used today.
  
  He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Holloway Canterbury; sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh Jr. and Gretchen Canterbury of Cumming, GA, Danna and Lisa Canterbury of Griffin, GA, and Michael and Tammy Canterbury of Jonesboro, Ga; sister, Martha Ellis of Longview, Texas; grandchildren and their spouses, Lauren and Aaron Grijalva, Wendy and Andy Wright, Clair Canterbury, Blake Canterbury and fiancé Dana Luker, Holly and Alex O’Brien, Alan and Amy Canterbury, and Kelli Canterbury; and great grandchildren, Casen Grijalva, Calista Grijalva, Mia Wright, Grayson Wright, Jack Canterbury and Milo Canterbury.
  
  Funeral services for Mr. Hugh Franklin Canterbury, Sr. will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home. Reverend Irvin Pearre and Reverend Hinton Harris will officiate. Friends may visit the family on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
