Mrs. Ila Jo Hollis , age 76 of Waynesville passed away in the late evening hours of Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 at the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.
Mrs. Hollis was born on September 10th, 1935 in Nicholls, Ga. She is the daughter of the late Dan Merritt and Louise Lillian Roberson Meeks. She was one of four other brothers and sisters, who were Cecil, Carl, Louanna and Jeannine. Mrs. Hollis was married to Kenneth Carey Hollis on October 26th, 1970 and they shared 38 years together until his passing in November of 2010. As a traditional Catholic family, they attended St. Michael the Arch Angel Church in Jacksonville. To speak of Mrs. Hollis is to simply say “Charity”. She was a humble, meek and pure child of God. She was faithful with long suffering, who denied herself and took up the cross to follow Christ. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Hollis is survived by her beloved children, Theresa Maryanne and John Turlington of Hortense, Denise Foxx of Pottstown, Pa., Norman Dascoli of West Warwick, RI and Paul ‘JJ’ Hollis of Dover Bluff; her cherished grandchildren, John Thomas and Anthony Michael Turlington ; and her loving sister, Jeannine and Jim Fairfax of Great Mills, Md.
A requiem Mass will be held at 11 am Friday, May 4th, 2012 at St. Michael the Arch Angel Church in Jacksonville. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday, May 4th, 2012 in the Wainwright Chapel of the funeral home. Committal services will be held afterwards at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, Ga. with Father Marshall Robert presiding.
