Ila Jones

Ila Mae Tomlinson Jones (Tommie), 95, of St Mary's, GA, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2023 at Hospice of Golden Isles.

Tommie was known for putting the needs of others before herself and became a caregiver at a young age and that continued her entire life.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Everett Jones; her father, Louis Alden Tomlinson; her mother, Flora Belle Grooms Tomlinson; and daughter, Linda Faye Marshall.

Tommie took pride in being an exemplary homemaker and role model for six daughters. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, and gardening. She loved pretty flowers, watching birds, and ice cream! She worked as a mail courier at Hunter Field in Savannah, Ga. In Homerville, Ga she was a medical Aide for Dr. Terry. For many years she worked as a store clerk at Barber’s Jiffy Grocery and St. Marys IGA. She babysat for many children in the area.

She was a charter member of Westside Baptist Church where she served in many leadership roles. She was also an active member of the City of St. Mary's Senior Center where she nurtured new and lasting friendships and enjoyed social activities.

Her survivors include her daughters: Ann Burch (Joe); Mary Jean Bible (Edward); Kathy Strickland (Bobby); Maxine Meredith (Jimmy); and Jackie Danielson (Charles), and son-in-law, Dillard Marshall; fourteen grandchildren; their spouses and thirty great grandchildren.

A Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023 and a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Both will be held at Westside Baptist Church, 201 S Dandy Street, St. Marys, GA. Burial will be at Pineview Cemetery, Folkston, GA. Services will be officiated by Rev, James Roberson.
