Mr. James Allen Childs, Sr., age 80, of Barnesville, GA passed away peacefully at home on December 16, 2013.
Mr. Childs was born in Griffin, GA on January 30, 1933 to the late Allen Herman Childs and the late Annie
Laurie Childs.
Mr. Childs graduated from Spalding County High School in 1952 where he played the position of tackle on the football team. Here he met the love of his life, Betty Laney Childs, who would share his life for 62 years.
Allen and Betty were married on June 29, 1952 in Griffin, GA. Mr. Childs was employed by Northwest Airlines for 38 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. Mr. Childs was a member of Second Baptist Church in Griffin and of the Christian Friends Sunday School class.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Laney Childs; daughters and sons-in-law, Cyndy and John Hemphill, Sr. of Leesburg, Laurie and Ricky James of Powder Springs; son and daughter-in-law, Jepp and Karen Childs of Griffin; grandchildren, Candice Childs, Cameron Childs, John Hemphill, Jr. and fiancée, Marisa, Chris Hemphill, Jennifer Radloff and husband, Nick, Robby James and fiancée, Vanessa, Matt James; great-grandchildren, Tanner Garvin, Chloe James; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Mary Nell Childs of Senoia; several nieces and nephews; his pride and joy, Lacee Lou, his yorkie.
Funeral services for Mr. James Allen Childs, Sr. will be conducted on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 3pm at Second Baptist Church in Griffin. Dr. Don Yarbrough and Rev. Chris Hemphill will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Thursday afternoon from 1 pm until the service hour at the church.
