Mr. James Milton Johnson, 74, of Kingsland, GA. passed away on the evening of Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at his Harriett’s Bluff home. He was surrounded by his much loved family. Mr. Johnson was born on September 25, 1948 to the late Martha and Earl Johnson. He was married to Lou Ann McCollum of Kingsland, GA. for 44 years, until her death in March 2021.
Mr. Johnson graduated from Camden County High School in 1967. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard on November 17, 1967 and served until August 16, 1971. After being released from active duty, he transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve until November 16, 1973. Mr. Johnson received the following medals: National Defense Service Medal and Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal. The education and training he completed while in the Coast Guard were Hospital Corpsman Class “A” School, Clinical Experience Course and Aviation Medicine School.
Jimmy and Lou Ann owned Optical Illusions in Kingsland for several years. Jimmy then worked as a physician’s assistant for Dr. Walter Gilbert in Jacksonville, FL. until his retirement in 2018, with 41 years of service. He enjoyed working with patients and developed lifelong relationships with many. He was a loving care taker of his wife Lou Ann, until her death in March 2021. Jimmy was a city council member in Kingsland for eleven years. He was active in the Kingsland Lions Club and served in many different positions. Jimmy was an avid fan of the Florida Gators and Jacksonville Jaguars. He attended many games of both teams. He was a member of the Kingsland United Methodist Church.
Anyone who knew Jimmy will remember his wit sense of humor. He was skilled at making clever and usually funny remarks. He loved music. Jimmy and several of his high school friends formed a band and called it The Facts of Life. He played the keyboard. The band played many gigs for people to enjoy their entertaining music.
Jimmy loved his family. He is survived by two incredible daughters Jill Johnson of Jacksonville, FL. and Joanna Childers (Bobby) of Kingsland, GA.; two awesome granddaughters Kailee Herndon and Abigail Herndon of Kingsland, GA.; four bonus grandchildren Bobby Childers III, Noah Childers, Mary Jane Childers, and Breanah Krajcer all of Kingsland, GA.; his sister-in laws Mary McCollum of Kingsland, GA. and LaRoyce McCollum of Golden, CO.; his nieces Elizabeth M.Berry (Steve) of Golden Oak, FL., Suzanne M. Johnson(Jeff) of Gray, GA. and Susan F.Hines of Golden, CO.; his nephews Jim Fountain(Debbie) of Lula, GA. and Butch Livingston of Kingsland, GA.; his daughter’s Godparents Teresa McDill and Cathy Trednick of Kingsland, GA.; and numerous treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Along with his parents, Jimmy joins his wife, Lou Ann M. Johnson, his brother Holt Johnson and his brother-in-law James (Jimmy) R. McCollum in Heaven.

A Graveside Service for family and friends will be held at 5:30 pm Wednesday, February 15, 2023 in Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland, Ga.
Jimmy will always hold a special place in our hearts and will be missed.
