James Mccollum

March 27, 1939 — January 24, 2022

Mr. James “Jimmy” Roger McCollum, age 82 of Kingsland, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, January 24th, 2022 in Brunswick, Georgia.

Mr. McCollum was born on March 27, 1939 in Jacksonville, Florida the late Dr. Roy and Minnie McCollum.
Jimmy grew up in Kingsland, where he attended the local schools and graduated from Camden County High School. From there, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a BBA. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and spent four-and-one-half years on active duty, attaining the rank of captain.

He was a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsland. And he was a real estate broker for over forty years in both Jacksonville and Camden County, proudly working with ERA of Kings Bay Realty, where he had so many wonderful relationships. Jimmy was an active member of the Lions Club and the American Legion – both of Kingsland – as well as the Southeast Georgia Bulldawg Club for decades. Jimmy’s love of Kingsland and Camden County was always evident by his continued participation in several committees and boards throughout his life, including the Joint Development Authority. Those who served with Jimmy in any of these organizations would have to agree that there was never a doubt of a successful project when he was involved, because he was known to be a “get-r-done” kind of guy.

Anyone who knew Jimmy knows that the most important things in his life were his family and the Georgia Bulldogs. There are so many wonderful memories to share from both, but the family is reminded of two recent events that made him happier than words. A December trip to Walt Disneyworld with his wife, children and grandchildren where he developed a love of Splash Mountain. And the incredible January football game where his Georgia Bulldogs decisively beat Alabama and secured the national championship. Go Dawgs!

Mr. McCollum is pre-deceased by his dear sister, Lou Ann Johnson. And survived by his beloved wife, Mary McCollum of Kingsland; his children, Elizabeth and Steve Berry of Golden Oak, Florida; Suzanne and Jeff Johnson of Gray, Georgia, and Donald Livingston of Athens, Georgia; his sister, LaRoyce McCollum of Golden, Colorado; his grandchildren, Eli Reinhardt and Ella Johnson; his cherished “bonus” grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Jimmy Johnson; his nieces and nephews, Jill Johnson, Joanna Herndon, Susan Hines and Jim Fountain; and numerous treasured cousins.

A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland.
