On January 24, 1942, in Spalding County, Georgia a daughter was born to Zolia Mae Gaines and Hagger Lyons. They named her JoAnn.
She was nurtured and educated in the public school system of Spalding County. At an early age JoAnn united with the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. I. S. Jester.
On Wednesday, December 26, 2012, our loving sister, aunt, beloved family member and friend went home to be with the Lord. Her transition came at Spalding Regional Medical Center. Although she will be missed on this side, she will be graciously welcomed by those who have gone on before her: her parents and other family members and friends.
Forever in the hearts of family, she leaves precious memories to her loving sisters, Mrs. Geraldine Ragland and Ms. Mattie Lyons; nephew and wife, Eric and Debra Spear; great nephew Kashief Spear; cousins, Betty Hightower, Geraldine Dukes, Carrie Gaines, and Thomas Dukes all of Griffin; Arthur Williams, and Walter and Florine Byrd of Daytona, Ohio; Willie Gaines and Charlie Gaines of Cordele, Georgia; Frank and Josephine Fears of Decatur, Georgia; and Fannie Simmons of Albany Georgia.
