Mr. O. John Bird was born in Stillmore, Georgia on February 21st, 1922. He passed away from this life on Friday, December 15th, 2017 in Pensacola, Florida. John was preceded in passing by his wife, Lois Irene in 1999. They were married for 57 wonderful years. John lived almost 96 years on this Earth, but is finally home with his Father in Paradise.
 
 ?He is preceded in passing by his parents, Charlie & Letha Kersey Bird; his brothers, Arlie, C.L., James & Roy; and his sister, Audrey.
 
 He is survived by two of the best children in the world, Rick & his wife, Mary Lou and Susan & her husband, Wayne; his grandchildren, Jeff (Amy) Simpler, Lance (Laura) Bird, Leanne (Casey) Bearden, and Andrew (Diana) Simpler. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, and had a special place in his heart for his great-niece, Carol Cason and his great nephew, Allen Cason, who he loved very much.
 
 Mr. Bird enlisted in the United States Navy and served in World War II as a Chief Petty Officer in the European Theatre of Operations. He actively participated in the major Allied invasions of Sicily, of Italy at Anzio and then the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France. John & Lois were faithful members of the Lord’s church and he served as a fulltime pulpit minister for over 50 years. He was the minister at St. Marys Church of Christ for several years and the church here always held a special place in his and Mama’s heart.
 
 Funeral services for Mr. Bird will be held graveside at 11am on Friday, December 22nd, 2017 at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland, Ga.
