Mr. John Wesley Lewis, age 72, of Griffin, GA passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Brightmoor Hospice.
  
  Reverend John Wesley Lewis was born May 5, 1942 in Meansville, Georgia. He was the son of the late Robert Lewis and the late Lucy M. White. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Rhonda Holt and an infant son John W. Lewis, Jr.
  
  He received his education from Pike County Consolidated High School. While in school, Reverend Lewis, along with Haze Mabry, John Mabry and Gilbert Colquitt, decided to form a group and call themselves the Silvertone Echoes. The group was formed in 1957 and sang faithfully until Reverend Lewis’s health declined on June 5, 2014. He served in the United States Army and was a retired employee of Delta Airline.
  
  Reverend John W. Lewis joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church at an early age and later recommitted his life to Christ and became a member of Breakthrough Ministries where he was licensed and ordained as an elder and served faithfully. He later became one of the pastors and founders  of Come As You Are Ministries.
  
  He has been a faithful servant of the Lord, singing and preaching the good news of Jesus Christ.
  
  On November 15, 2014, Reverend John W. Lewis stepped aboard that “Old Ship of Zion.”
  
  He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife Jeanette Lewis, sons Tony A. Lewis of Riverdale, Georgia, Don Johnson of Dallas, Texas, Daughters Iris (Michael) Lawrence of Hampton, Georgia and Cheryl Bogan of Zebulon, Georgia; grandchildren Tylar Lewis, Chasity Lawrence, Maranda Johnson, Alonzo Jordan and Marteze Faildes, whom he raised as his own; brothers and sisters-in-law Albert and Shirley Johnson, Geraldine Glanton, Keith and Coletta Johnson, Madeline and Fred Terrell, Vickie Jester, Karen Blackmon, Anthony and Dione Alexander; special cousin Bernice Colquitt; dedicated friends Douglas Colquitt, Reverend Oscar Colquitt, Albert Johnson and Shirley Flemister; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
  
  Funeral services for Mr. John Wesley Lewis will be held Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 12:00 noon in the Eighth Street Baptist Church. Reverend Alfred Davis will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday evening from 6 pm -8 pm at the funeral home.
