Joseph Mccollough

August 4, 1932 — December 28, 2023

Joseph Edward McCollough, age 91, of Woodbine, GA went to his eternal home in Heaven on December 28, 2023.

Edward was born in Eastman, Georgia on August 4, 1932.  Growing up he worked on his family’s dairy farm in Kingsland which cultivated a strong work ethic that he carried with him throughout his entire life.  He graduated from Blackshear High School and then served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  After returning from the war, he worked for Gilman Paper Company and retired after 47 years.

Edward was a beloved family man.  He married his loving wife of 67 years, Delores, on November 2, 1956.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He was known as “Papa” to many of his favorite people.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching the Jaguars play on Sunday afternoons.

Edward was a true and faithful servant of Christ.  He was a founding member of New Hope Baptist Church in St. Mary’s where he was ordained as a deacon.  After moving to Woodbine, he served in the development of First Baptist Church of Harriett’s Bluff, where he helped with the construction of the sanctuary and was a deacon for 45 years.

Edward’s favorite message was:

God is good,

All the time.

All the time,

God is good.

Edward is survived by his wife, Delores; children, Sylvia Stanley (Toby) of Woodbine and Joseph Edward (Eddie) McCollough, Jr. (Julia) of St. Mary’s; his grandchildren, Joseph Lee McCollough (Mary) of St. Mary’s, April Frawley (Randy) of Woodbine, Jessica Clifford (Brandon) of Woodbine, Charlie McCollough of St. Mary’s; his great-grandchildren Emma and Claire McCollough of St. Mary’s, Ryland and Kinsley Clifford of Woodbine.  He is also survived  by his three sisters, Jane Allen and Charlotte Pike of Jacksonville, FL and Cassandra McCollough of Willow Springs, MO; two brothers James (Jimmy) McCollough (Eileen) of Atlanta, GA and Franklin McCollough (Jean) of Derry, NH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
