Mrs. Karen Louise Millard , age 69 of Kingsland, Ga. passed away on the evening of Saturday, April 8 th , 2017 at the NE Florida Community Hospice Morris Center on the UF Health campus in Jacksonville, Fl.
Mrs. Millard was born on July 23 rd , 1947 in Bremerton, Washington. She is the daughter of the late Walt Northway and Marie Northway-Blocker. Karen was raised in Santa Monica, CA. She loved the beach, playing volleyball, hanging out on the pier, and dancing with friends. Karen loved music and some of her favorite songs came from The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys and Elvis. She returned to Washington State as a young adult, met and married her husband Larry and started a family. Karen loved baking cherry pies and oatmeal cookies for family and friends. A devoted daughter, mother, sister, she enjoyed planning family gatherings and sharing stories….. She always had a story to share. They returned to sunny California to finish raising their family, in what is now Santa Clarita Valley. When the children were old enough, Karen entered the work force as a staffing coordinator for Able Nurses in the early 80’s. She never lost sight of the most important people in her life and continued to encourage family gatherings, camping, picnicking, and of course beach trips. Later, she became a member of the Red Hats Society and loved tending to her roses and garden. After moving to Camden County, Georgia to be closer to her grandchildren, she attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and joined the St. Marys Senior Center where she enjoyed the simple pleasures of chatting with friends and playing Mahjong. Karen also loved cruising in their 1952 Chevy and going to car shows. Her greatest joys were seeing her grandchildren Delon, Josh, Danja, Sean, Ryan, Amelia, Paula & Joy and spending time with them at every opportunity. Despite the distance between her and some of the grandchildren, Karen loved to talk about each of them often and share her memories.
Besides her parents, Karen will be reunited with her beloved Aunt Pauline in Heaven.
Mrs. Millard is survived by her beloved husband, Lawrence G. Millard; her children, Floyd (Ruthie) Barber of Ft. Collins, Co., Resa (Michael) Creo of Kingsland, Ga., Dave Millard of Grover Beach, Ca., Rosemarie Millard of Kingsland, Ga. and Larry Millard of Snake River, Or.; her grandchildren, Delon & Danja Barber, Joshua, Sean & Amelia Creo and Ryan, Paula & Joy Millard; her sisters, Loretta Pederson of Woodinville, Wa., Charlotte (Bill) Smith, Ina (Greg) Jones & Edra Riggins all of Port Orchard, Wa.; her uncle, Rev. Brother Charles Avendano of New Orleans, La.; and several nieces & nephews.
Calling hours for the Millard family will be from 5 to 7 pm Friday, April 14 th , 2017 at Coastal Camden Funeral Home.
