Mrs. Lavonia Marie Lewis, age 81 passed away on the afternoon of Saturday, June 11th, 2016 at UF Health in Jacksonville, Fl.
Mrs. Lewis was born in Kingsland, Ga. on August 25th, 1934. She is the daughter of the late Marie Wainwright & James David ‘JD’ McCollough. She was the wife of Phillip Brown Lewis, who passed away in 1985. Mrs. Lewis’s family expressed the many hats she has worn in her lifetime. Along with being a mother, she was a music instructor for the Nassau County School System in Hilliard. Fl. in the 1960’s and 70’s and taught piano privately. After Mr. Lewis passed away, she became an award winning realtor with Coldwell Banker in the late 1980’s and into the 1990’s. Mrs. Lewis was also a successful in selling AmWay products. She was craft oriented, taking up embroidery, crocheting, sewing and painting. Mrs. Lewis was very devoted to her faith. She was a long serving member of the Kingsland First Baptist Church in Kingsland, Ga. She served as choir director in the 1960’s and 70’s, taught in Senior Sunday School, and was active in the Singles ministry. She was a devoted bible scholar and theologian, ministering to those in need. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by her daughters, Rose Siemer & Elizabeth Lewis, both of Winchester, Va. and Susan & her husband, Andy Stephens of Millington, Tn.; her sisters, Elizabeth Leggett of Jacksonville, Fl., Laura & her husband, Bob Sabia and Donna McCollough all of Gainesville, Fl.; and her brother David McCollough of Denver, Co.; her grandchildren, Carrie Witwer of Brighton, Tn. Andy Stephens of Munford, Tn. And Nick Siemer of Jacksonville, Fl.; and her great grandchildren, Garrett Witwer, Lauren Witwer, Drew Stephens, Josie Witwer, Kalob Stephens, Darlene Witwer, and Bentley Stephens.
Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Lewis joins her great grandson Rex Witwer in Heaven.
A graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 14th, 2016 in Oakwell Cemetery at the end of Clarks Bluff Road in Kingsland, Ga. with Rev. Jack McCollough presiding.
