Lloyd Edwards

October 31, 1934 — September 19, 2012

Lloyd was born in Bridgeport, Nebraska, but was raised in Kansas and Arkansas. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Melva Hammon Edwards. The couple met in the summer of 1951 when Melva was on a high school graduation trip with her mom, Ruby Hammon. They were traveling to Arkansas to see aunts and uncles Melva had never met. There, she and Lloyd met in a quaint country church that Lloyd’s father pastored. One year later, during another trip to Arkansas, the couple eloped - with the help of Melva’s mother! They left Arkansas and traveled back to Melva’s hometown, Boise, ID. They were married on September 7, 1952. Through the years they were blessed with six children, two daughters and four sons, fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Lloyd was preceded in death by his late father and mother, Rev. Arthur M. Edwards and Geraldine Trefethen Edwards, of Hot Springs, AR., and one grandson, the son of their daughter Melody, Jonathan D. Burk.
Their first child, Melody, and her husband Terry McFarland, live in Jackson, GA. Melody’s children include her daughter Erin. Erin’s husband is Travis Buice and their daughter, Cecilia, is Lloyd and Melva’s first great-grandchild. Melody’s other children are Bradley and his wife Candice, and their son, Joseph. Randy Burk is her youngest child.
Daniel and his wife Renee make their home in Colorado Springs, CO.; and have blessed the family with two charming boys, Zachery and Samuel.
Stephen and his wife Sharon reside in Sioux Falls, SD.
Jonathan and his wife Carla have made their home in Springfield, OR. They have three gifted children, Desiree and her husband Steve Neet; daughter Jessica and son Jonathan.
Brian and his wife Tonna live in McDonough, GA. They also have three talented children and have added two great-grandchildren to the family. Joshua and his wife Shannon; Michael and Sarah, with their two children Gabrielle and Haydn; and Brian’s youngest son Caleb completes the family.
Lloyd and Melva’s youngest daughter Rebecca, and her husband Nicholas Ward, also live in McDonough, Ga. Becki’s two wonderful children are Steve and Hannah Craig.
Lloyd is also survived by his four siblings, Marjorie Stewart, Corine Peck, Evelyn Clem, Duane Edwards, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lloyd had three great passions in his life. First, his lifelong love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Lloyd was known as a man of integrity, who unashamedly shared with others about his faith and love for God.
Second, Lloyd was proud of his family. Lloyd and Melva were always active in church and raised their children to love and serve the Lord. The importance of values and not being afraid to stand up for what they believed, was core teaching in the Edward’s household. Lloyd often poetically referred to his children and grandchildren as a beautiful bouquet of flowers, all different and precious. Lloyd and Melva loved to travel and took their children on numerous vacations across America. They also enjoyed camping, boating, hunting, and family gatherings.
Third, Lloyd was a master carpenter and builder who took great pride and care in his work which included building homes, apartments, churches, hospitals, libraries, schools and universities, skyscrapers, and a nuclear reactor. He and his wife Melva raised their family primarily in Boise, ID and Aberdeen, WA. Due to Lloyd’s skill as a building superintendant, job sites from various cities in Texas, Florida and North Carolina benefitted from his expertise before he retired to Jackson, GA in 1993.
