Betty Lorene Johns Purvis was born on August 5th, 1927 in Brunswick, Ga. and died on December 11th, 2020 at her home in St. Marys, Ga. Her parents were Oscar and Lutrell Beck. Lorene lived in Brunswick, graduated from Glynn Academy, and worked for Southern Bell in Brunswick. She married Daniel Lee Purvis on November 7th, 1947. They lived in Brunswick, but moved to St. Mary’s when Lee began working at Gilman Paper Company. A few years later, they moved to Charleston, Tn. for Lee to work at Bowaters Paper Company. Lee was killed in an auto accident in June 1957, and Lorene returned to St. Marys to live. Lorene worked at Gilman Hospital and here at Westside as the church secretary. In 1964, she started working at Gilman Paper Company as a secretary in the lab office for over 25 years. She retired in 1989. After retiring, she spent time helping her family and friends, and was very involved in the church.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her oldest daughter, Sandra Purvis Coleman. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Kuhns (Bill) of Maryland, and Peggy DuBose (Chuck) of St. Marys; her grandchildren, Chad DuBose and Dana Bellisle (Derek), all of Kingsland, Ashley LaFlam (Sean) of Vermont, Kristen Kuhns (Jeff Naquin) of Texas, William Kuhns, III of Virginia, and Lauren Hamblen (Chris) of Florida; and her great-grandchildren, Taylor Johnson, Loren James, Brody DuBose, Brady DuBose, Landen Bellisle, Wesley Bellisle, Maddox Bellisle, Abigail LaFlam, Tucker LaFlam, Ethan LaFlam, Alyssa Hamblen, and Joseph Hamblen; her great-great grandchildren, Carter Wood and Braylee Wood; her sister, Faye Walters (Reggie) of St. Marys, Ga.; her nieces, Vickie Dixon (David) and Kathy Walters (Carl); along with many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held Sunday, December 13th, 2020 from 5 to 7 pm at Coastal Camden Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 14th, 2020 at 3 pm at Westside Baptist Church, with Pastor James Roberson officiating. Her grandson, Chad DuBose and Derek Bellisle, and her nephew, David Dixon will serve as pallbearers.
Burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, Ga.
