Mr. Luther James Stinson, Sr., age 78, of Griffin, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Luther James Stinson, Sr., (Gene) was born January 23, 1936 in Griffin, Georgia to the late Alance and Fanny Odessa Stinson. He transitioned from this earthly life on Sunday, October 26, 2014.
Mr. Stinson was united in Holy Matrimony to Linda Harps Stinson in 2002. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Mr. Stinson joined Barrow Chapel UMC at an early age. He also served as a deacon at Northside Baptist Church. Mr. Stinson was currently serving as a deacon at the Carpenter’s House Word of Ministry when he became ill.

Mr. Stinson attended Spalding Vocational High School. He was employed at Georgia Highway Trucking, Inc. and was later employed at Dundee Mill where he retired. He was currently working for the Griffin Police Department as a school crossing guard at Moore Elementary School.

Mr. Luther Stinson, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alance Stinson; daughter, Gloria Williams; son, Luther Stinson, Jr.; sister, Dorothy Farley; and brother, Charles Stinson.

Mr. Stinson leaves to cherish his many memories: a devoted wife Linda Harps Stinson, six children: Mrs. Yvette (Montez) Head, Mrs. Rosa (Donald) Lemon, Mrs. Carlene (John Lee) McDowell, Ms. Victoria Goodman, Mr. Willie Barkley, Mr. Eric (Felicia) Barkley, siblings: Mr. Alance Stinson, Mr. Robert Stinson, Mr. Jackie (Mary) Stinson, Minister, Shirley Gardner, Mrs. Shirley (Grady) Banks, Mr. James Stinson and Mr. Walter Gerald Stinson, all of Griffin; Mrs. Maggie Jester of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mr. Carlton Stinson of Defiance, Ohio; father-in-law Deacon Tommy Lee (Jewel) Harps; sister-in-law Minister Patricia (Jimmie) Willis, brother-in-law Mr. Larry (Mildred) Harps; thirteen grandchildren, one great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving friends and a special friend, Mr. Tony Martin.

Funeral services for Mr. Luther James Stinson, Sr. will be held Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Eighth Street Baptist Church. Reverend W. J. Buchanan will offer the eulogy. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 6 pm -8 pm at the funeral home.
