Lydia Ellison

November 11, 1954 — December 18, 2016

Mrs. Lydia Lynn Ellison , age 62 of Woodbine, Ga. Harriett’s Bluff community passed away in the late morning hours of Sunday, December 18 th , 2016 at Southeast Georgia Health System in St. Marys, Ga.
Mrs. Ellison was born in Gulfport, Mississippi on November 11 th , 1954. She is the daughter of the late Anna Marie Meadows & Elwood Carmean ‘Cy’ Tucker. Her family said of her, “It is one of the hardest things in life to deal with… the loss of a loved one.  Unfortunately, it is a part of the circle of life created by our Father above. As we walk this earth, we do so with a purpose that many times is not apparent of what that may be, only that it is predetermined to serve. God created the heavens, and earth, as He did the people who walk it. Lydia Ellison was one of those rare people that walked it with a smile on her face, filling those around her with the overwhelming joy she displayed.  Gifted with the ability to cook, she was a true blessing in the kitchen from an early age. Insisting no one dare go hungry around her, she had those rare qualities found in every great cook, which included being able to put a pinch of this, a dash of that and a whole lot of TLC together in whatever was planned for the meal, and make it a ‘got to have two servings, I ate too much’ night.
As a mother, she taught those life lessons that a man should take care of his wife, provide for her, love her, and never let her do the outside chores. As a woman, she taught the best way to a man’s heart is through his belly, and to keep a clean house.  There was never such thing as an uninvited guest for dinner, as there was always enough for an army. Almost OCD like in her cleanliness, her house she felt had to be spotless, and so help me if her kids left it otherwise. OH by the way go clean your room, really meant, so help me if you don’t, I will and everything in the floor is going to the trash. As a wife, Lydia exemplified faithfulness and what it means to take care of the home. In the 40 years of marriage, she had several full time jobs in which she received a paycheck; her most recent was a dry cleaning route, in which her clients were better known as friends. During these 40 years, she filled a home with all the requirements of a solid marriage, children, food, warmth, love, kindness, and smiles. Home cooked meals were a must, saying hello with a kiss became the norm, and the occasional fight had to be solved with prayer and a little making up. Her home was filled with natural colors, and yet some pastels to remind us all that God was always around us, as these were the very colors you could see out every window. She loved nights in front of the fire place with her family close by. She enjoyed washing the dishes as part of a wifely chore she felt was taking care of the family. Most of all, having to have a hug and kiss before saying goodnight was a must, as she wanted you to know you were in a home filled with love and joy.”
