Mabel Bowen

Mabel H. Bowen of McDonough, GA went home to be with the Lord on July 12, 2016. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home at the age of 93. She was a loving wife and devoted mother. Mrs. Bowen was born in Fitzgerald, GA on January 1, 1923 to the late Frank Joseph Hunter and late Abbie Taylor Hunter. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Walter H. Bowen. She is survived by sons and their wives Jerry and Sue Bowen of Hampton, GA. and Joel and Karen Bowen of Flagler Beach, FL., grandchildren and their husbands Susan and Col. Halsey Burks of Suffolk, VA., Cindy and Lenny Fernandez of Wexford, PA., and Richard Bowen of Jacksonville, FL., great grandchildren Ethan Burks, Isabella and Cecelia Fernandez. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and sister, Ann Herndon.

Mrs. Bowen was also preceded in death by sister’s Hazel Tucker, Melba Bratton, Helen Jenkins, Marjorie Lake, Louise Deese, and brother Gene Hunter.

Appreciation is extended to her loving and faithful caregivers, Deloris Addison, Carolyn Cook, Tanya Parris, Lisa Luckie, and Armetha Steele.

Mabel and Walter were instrumental in a church start in Bonaire, GA. where they were active members for many years. After moving to McDonough, GA, Mrs. Bowen became a member Union Baptist Church in Griffin, GA. and was an active member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Bowen will be held on July 15, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home in Griffin, GA. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lilly Cemetery in Lilly, GA.
