Margaret Louise Drury DuBose

Louise DuBose of St. Marys, passed peacefully on June 15, 2024 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. She is preceded in passing by her husband, Marion DuBose, in 2007.

Louise was born on September 23, 1930. The first child of seven born to Jimmie Lou and Ernest D. Drury. Raised in Woodbine, she was educated in Camden County schools and graduated in a class of 13, the final year of only 11 grades in high school, 1947.

Louise married Marion DuBose on May 25, 1949 and they welcomed a son, Teddy, in March of 1950. She was a proud mother and wife assisting with the family shrimping business for the next 50 years. When retirement came for Marion, Louise ventured outside the home to work at a local business.

Louise is survived by one sister, Faye Dinkins of Homeland, GA.; Her son, Ted and wife Patti DuBose; granddaughters Carmen (Dan) Bigelow and Casey (John) Wasinger. Three great-grandchildren, Amelia Bigelow, Sam Wasinger and Marian Wasinger. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She will be remembered fondly for her seasonal indoor and outdoor decorations for each and every holiday or special occasion. Her eclectic Christmas yard displays especially will be missed by her neighbors and community members.

In addition to her immediate family, Louise is survived by her work colleagues of Camden Pharmacy both past and present. She was known as “Granny” to all at the pharmacy. She worked until she was 90 for Anthony Kicklighter and she considered the pharmacy employees her adopted family and she loved each and every one of them like her own.

Louise was a lifelong Methodist and member of the First Methodist Church of St. Marys. Many thanks to her church family especially Cheryl Doster, Betty Spagna and Kathy and Herbert Rowland for their love for Louise. Sandra Norman and Linda Arnold were also devoted and faithful friends throughout many years.

The family would like to extend consideration and gratitude to the staff of Lakes Crossing Senior Living, the Camden and Brunswick campuses of Southeast Georgia Health System, and Hospice of the Golden Isles for their part in her care for the last few years.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Methodist Church at 11 AM Monday July 1. The family will accept visitors beginning at 10 AM. Burial immediately following the service at Oak Grove Cemetery where Louise will be laid to rest next to her husband Marion.
