Ms. Mary Catherine Strickland, age 87, passed away Sunday, December 29th, 2024 at her home in St. Marys, Ga.
Ms. Strickland was born on November 28th, 1937 in Folkson, Ga. to the late James Wade Sr. and Mertice Petty.
Ms. Mary Catherine grew up in Folkston, Georgia and married David Earl Strickland Sr. before moving to St. Mary's Georgia where they raised their children. Ms. Mary was known as a caretaker and she spent many years working as a nurse at the Methodist Hospital in Jacksonville Florida and at the local nursing home in St. Marys Georgia. In addition, she was a caretaker for homebound people and took pride in tending and helping her family and friends in any way possible. Ms. Mary Catherine dedicated her life to serving the Lord and was a devoted member of Westside Baptist Church. She loved Jesus with her whole heart and shared her love with all. She was a beautiful woman inside and out and loved her family very much.
Ms. Strickland is survived by her children, David (Melissa) Strickland, Jr., and Robyn (George) White, all of St. Marys, Ga.; her sister, Shirley (James Roy) Hall of St. Marys, Ga.; her brothers, James (Lisa) Petty, Jr. and Larry Petty, all of St. Marys, Ga.; her grandchildren, Courtney Clark, Chelsey Dimsdale, and Dana Parker; her great-grandchildren, McKenzie Miller, Caylee Miller, Chloe Clark, Cole Riggins, and Bailey Clark,; her great-great-grandson, Nicholas Altamirano, Jr.; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Besides her parents, Ms. Strickland was also preceded in death by her husband, David Strickland, Sr.; her daughter, Kathy Strickland; her grandson, Chad Riggins; and her sisters, Lorraine Frost and Louise Walker.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, January 4th, 2025 in Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, Ga. with Pastor James Roberson presiding. Chris Frost, Jimmy Hall, Jason Walker, David Walker, Eric Petty, and Don Lewis will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Ralph Howard and Mike Deloach.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Westside Baptist Church building fund.
