Michael Chauncey

Mr. Michael Lavon Chauncey , age 60, of Kingsland, Ga. passed away on the afternoon of December 4th, 2013 at Baptist Health in Jacksonville, Fl.
Mr. Chauncey was born in Sylvester, Ga. on February 27th, 1953. He is the son of the late Mr. Wildon Wayne Chauncey and Mrs. Beulah Mae Whitaker Chauncey. His family shared that he was a loving husband, father and friend. He was his brother Wayne’s best friend. Mr. Chauncey was married to his beloved wife, Joann on October 24th, 1990 and they have shared their life and love together for 23 years. Mr. Chauncey had many achievements in his life. Mr. Chauncey was a graduate of Westover High School in Albany Ga. in 1971. He later earned an electronics degree from Albany Technical College and received his Bachelor of Education degree from Valdosta State College in 2002.
He was an accomplished scuba diver and assisted with Search and Rescue with the Camden County Sheriff’s office. His diving exploits in the rivers of the southeastern US allowed him access to unique underwater finds. From this he assembled Megalodon Shark tooth exhibits displayed at the University of Georgia and Valdosta State College to teach about the sharks that swam in our ancient oceans. Mr. Chauncey was a senior manufacturing support team member for Lockheed Martin on Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay (NSBKB) with over 25 years of service. He was part of the activation of the Trident II D5 missile system on NSBKB and later supported bringing other activities online from other facilities to support missile systems. Mr. Chauncey was also a master gardener, a self-taught gunsmith and was passionate about metal detecting. His giving ways, gentle hand and easy laugh will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
Mr. Chauncey is survived by his wife, Joann Childers Chauncey of Kingsland; his daughter, Stori Page (Jamie) of Cummings, GA; his sons, Mickey Chauncey of Albany, GA, Wade Salter (Teresa) of Sylvester, GA, and Danny Salter of Sylvester, GA; his brothers, Wayne Chauncey (Shirley) of Waynesville and Jeffrey Chauncey (Michelle) of Melbourne, FL; he is also survived by his grandchildren, Cody & Ashley Chauncey, Jade Dorminey, Amber Hendricks, Brody Page, and Kaitlyn, Emily & Baylee Salter.
A visitation will be held from 11:30 to 1:30 Saturday, December 7th, 2013 at Kingsland First Baptist Church with funeral services to begin at 1:45. Pastor Jerry Johns of Nahunta’s Southside Baptist Church will preside. Active pallbearers will be Dale Williams, Brian Paul. Paul Donahue, Ben Grooms, Robert Chauncey and Wade Salter. Honorary Pallbearers will be George Shepard, Jack Ring, Clint Phillips and Gerald McDaniel.
Family and friends will meet at 4 pm in Chauncey Cemetery in Ware County, Ga. for Mr. Chauncey’s interment.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Chauncey Cemetery Fund: care of Allen Chauncey / 927 Grace Terrace / Jacksonville, FL. 32205.
