Mrs. Peggy Hughes, age 80, passed away on the evening of Tuesday, February 21st, 2023 at her home in Columbia, SC after an extended illness.
Mrs. Hughes was born on February 4th, 1943 in Columbus, Ga. to the late Robert and Ruby May Pitts.
Mrs. Hughes was a long-time resident of Camden County, a devoted wife and mother, and an incredibly proud grandmother. As much as she loved her family, her passion was for sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a committed pastor’s wife, Sunday School teacher, friend, and counselor for many who knew her. For many years, she was involved in the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU), both as the WMU Director for the Southeast Baptist Association and on the Georgia WMU Executive Board as a regional Vice-President for the Southeast Georgia.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband of 60 years, Reverend Bob Hughes of Columbia, SC.; her daughter, Deborah (Kenny) Warden of Columbia, SC; her brother, Robert Pitts, Jr. of Tampa, Fl.; and her grandchildren, David Warden and Rachel Warden.
A visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am Friday, February 24th, 2023 at Kingsland First Baptist Church old chapel. Funeral Services will follow at 11 am there with Pastor Brian Parker presiding. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland, Ga. Pall bearers are Stan Fowler, Robert Pitts, III, Scottie Pitts, Jeffrey Pitts, Wendy Mann and Timothy Mann.
