Mrs. Reba L. Powers
August 26, 1927 – December 3, 2016
Mrs. Reba L. Powers, age 89, of Griffin, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Brightmoor Assisted Living Center.
Born in Alma, Georgia on August 26, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Floyd and Lena (Burkhalter) Courson. In addition to her parents, Reba was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Henry “Hank” John Powers, Sr.; her brother, Bobby “Billy” Courson; great-granddaughter, Heather Powers; and several brother and sister-in-laws.
Reba met and married her husband in her hometown, where he came to teach and coach football in the early 1950s. In 1961, she and Hank returned to Griffin, his hometown. Reba joined her husband in the Griffin-Spalding School system, where she worked as a library aide at Griffin High School until her retirement. She was long-time member of First Baptist Church of Griffin, where she was active in the Seekers Sunday School class.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nan and Mickey Teasley of Elberton; her son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Cindy Powers of Griffin; grandchildren: Tom Teasley, David Teasley, Adriane Powers, Christy LeBlanc, Jonathan Powers, and Katelyn Turpin; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Jackie Howell; sister-in-law, Tootsie Powers, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Missions Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Griffin.
