Mrs. Retha Mae Sims, age 88, of Griffin, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015.

Mrs. Retha Mae Sims was born in Monroe County, Georgia, on January 28, 1927 to Ms. Lou Annie Watts and Mr. Rufus Lawrence. She departed this life on November 3, 2015.

Mrs. Sims had a deep and abiding faith in God. She joined Pleasant Grove Methodist church at an early age, and later joined Holly Grove Baptist Church. Helpfulness and compassion were characteristics that exemplified her inner spirit.

She married Reverend Leroy Sims and to this union five children were born. Mrs. Sims leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Vera Whatley (Harrison) and Shirley Sumlin; and sons, Roger Sims (Sarah), Eddie V. Sims and Larry Sims.

Nine grandchildren, Nikki and Kelli Sumlin, Jerri Sumlin Bond (Jeffrey), Karmen, Ariana, Keir (Nichelle) and Keith Sims, Cassandra Davis and Terri Sims; six great grandchildren, Jamal Moor, Alafia Sims, Donovan Davis, Caleb Pierce, James and Brandon Bond.

She leaves to mourn three sisters, Earlene Smith (Arthur), Mildred Berry and Lucille Fuller. She leaves behind a host of relatives, including aunts, nieces, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband Reverend Leroy Sims; mother Lou Annie Watts Walker; fathers Rufus Lawrence and Harrison Walker; siblings, Rufus, Robert, Ocie Eunice, Ezra, James, Lottie, Ephriam Cornelius, Hubert, Joseph Louis and Juanita Walker.

Special thanks to caregiver Exieree Gardner. The Sims Family would like to extend our sincere gratitude and thanks to the entire Eternal Hope Hospice staff for their professionalism, compassion, kindness, love and heavenly care given to our love one “Ms. Retha”. You are truly Guardian Angels in disguise. We love you.

Funeral services for Mrs. Retha Mae Sims will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Holly Grove Baptist Church. Reverend James H. Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, November 9, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
