Richard Kirkland (Rick) Drury of Oceanway, FL unexpectedly went to be with the Lord on August 12, 2023.
Rick was born in Brunswick, GA on June 21, 1942 to Ernest Donavon Drury and Jimmie Lou (Kirkland) Drury. He was the second son and the youngest of seven children. He is survived by daughter Donna Drury Smith of Jacksonville, FL and a grandson Tobias Q. Smith of Hinesville, GA. He also leaves behind two sisters, Louise DuBose of St. Marys, GA and Faye Dinkins of Homeland, GA.
Rick was raised in Woodbine, GA and educated in the Camden County School System, graduating in the Class of 1960. While in high school, he was in the first class of volunteer firemen in Woodbine established in 1958.
Rick went to work for Seaboard Coastline Railroad in July of 1960 and eventually retired on May 8, 1998 from CSX Railroad 37 years and 11 months later.
Rick was drafted into the U. S. Army on July 27, 1966 and honorably discharged on July 26, 1968, after serving in Vietnam.
Rick was selected as “Single Parent of the Year” for Parents Without Partners in 1974. He also served as President and held several other offices in that organization.
Rick graduated from Florida Junior College in Jacksonville with an Associate of Arts degree on July 15, 1972, and continued his education by graduating from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Business Administration on August 25, 1978.
Rick is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and a host friends.
Rick had a heart of gold and silently contributed to several food banks and children’s holiday activities all around the Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida area. He was famous for ordering hundreds of stuffed animals for distribution to local children during Christmas season. His support will be greatly missed.
