Mr. Roger William McNamara, age 79 of St. Marys, Ga., passed away on the evening of Monday, April 10th, 2023 at the Community Hospice Center in Fernandina Beach, Fl.
Mr. McNamara was born on May 6th, 1943 in Portsmouth, Oh. to the late Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Distel) McNamara.
Roger was well known as “Mr. Mac”. He worked as a teacher/administrator for 50 years, with the last 10 years at Camden County High School. He especially enjoyed being called “Mr. Mac” by his students, as he felt that was a way he was able to connect with them. In his career, Roger’s greatest sense of satisfaction was that his students allowed him to be an influence in their lives.
Roger was also known as “Shawnee” to his friends and family in “SASS”, where he helped to promote gun safety while showing off various shooting skills, and enjoying the brotherhood of the organization.
Roger had also participated in several civic organizations including: ELK’s, Knight’s of Columbus, and The Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Mr. McNamara is survived by his wife, Susan (Wellmann) McNamara of St. Marys, Ga.; his children, Colleen (Gunther) Helms of St. Marys, Ga., Thomas (Martina Rose) McNamara of Batavia, Oh., and Michael (Lisa) McNamara of Westchester, Oh.; his grandchildren, Augustus McNamara, Wallace McNamara, Nicholas Helms, and Alexandra Helms; and his niece, Marie Casey.
Besides his parents, Mr. McNamara was also preceded in death by his brother, David McNamara.
