Ronnie Barber

Mr. Ronnie Gordon Barber , age 77, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 25 th , 2019 at his home in St. Marys, Ga.



Mr. Barber was born on March 16 th , 1942 to
the late Jesse and Ellen Barber.



Ronnie was born and raised in Alma, Georgia, all of
his children were well aware of this because at some point throughout their
lives they all got a tour of Alma and Bacon County. He was proud of where he came
from. He liked to say that he was famous in Alma, he told us that the welcome
sign said Welcome to Alma, Home of Ronnie Barber. He had the best sense of
humor which remained even during his last days. There has been an ongoing
debate since childhood about which daughter is the favorite, you see he
privately told each of us that we were his favorite.   He loved Jesus, his family, and the Georgia Bulldogs,
not necessarily always in that order.  He
would spend hours working outside, feeding his fish and watching his beloved
birds. His children were never allowed pets growing up, but he had a squirrel
that he raised and trained and once he even had a quail that he raised from an
egg that would follow him for walks around the neighborhood. He hasn’t been
able to get out much over the last year but outside of the family room window
he had half a dozen hummingbird feeders and bird feeders so he could watch
them. One particular blue bird would fly right up to the window and just look
in or cling on the screen, we think maybe he missed him being outside and just
wanted to say hello to his friend. If at any time over the last 20 years you
happened to visit his home he would ask you if you’d seen his pond and proudly
take you outside to show his pond and his fish, although at one point he had
some coy in the pond he was so proud of his bass and catfish. Each grandchild
was able to spend time with him feeding the fish and just hanging out with him.




Ronnie loved his wife Carolyn more than words can
describe. In his later years it wasn’t unusual to walk into the bathroom and
find a post it note from him to her just an I love you or simple words of
affection.



He didn’t like for her to go too far from his side, he
would call her name, Carolyn, where are you?  He affectionately called her “my sweetheart “.
During his final days surrounded by his family he held her hand and said a prayer,
he thanked God for giving him the wisdom to choose her even when he was young
and didn’t have the wisdom of his own. He told her how much he loved her and
held her hand in his and just looked at her.  It was a beautiful love that we all should
aspire to.



He took joy in the small things and always looked at
the bright side. He loved his family and friends fiercely. A lot of times when
people leave this earth people say, he was a great man, and people read it and
think ok? But Ronnie, Ronnie Barber was truly a good man who would do anything
for anyone. We have heard so many stories recently about him, about how he
shared his love of Jesus with everyone. He was an amazing husband, daddy and
friend. He will be missed so very much.



Ronnie never met a stranger; he never missed an
opportunity to share his love of Jesus and the Georgia Bulldogs with anyone who
would listen.  He wore a ring that said
Jesus and he would proudly show it to anyone who was willing to listen. There
isn’t a server in town that hasn’t seen that ring and heard his story. And if
he were here today, he would say have you met my friend Jesus.



Mr. Barber is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn
Barber of St. Marys, Ga.; his daughters, Becky (Raymond) Bacon of Warner
Robins, Ga., Amy (Todd) Sullivan of Murfreesboro, Tn., Patty (David) Mills, and
“the favorite” Jenny (Anthony) Alicea, all of St. Marys, Ga.; his brothers,
Gene (Vicki) Barber of Kingsland, Ga. and Tony (Jacqueline) Barber of
Greenville, Sc.; his grandchildren, Mark (Alicia) Corrigan, Chelsea (Chris)
Bledsoe, Blake Corrigan, Chandler Bacon, Michael Sullivan, Leah (Jesse)
Reynolds, Kai Campbell, Taylor (Brandon) Hilbert, Ava Alicea, Justice Alicea, Jewels
Alicea, Nolan Alicea, Anthony Alicea, Jr., Bella Alicea, and Julius Alicea.



Besides his parents, Mr. Barber also joins his sister,
Shirley Clark and his grandson, Kaden Campbell in Heaven.



A visitation for Mr. Barber will be from 5 pm to 7 pm Sunday, July 28 th , 2019 at the Harbor Worship Center in Kingsland. Funeral Services will be at 1 pm Monday, July 29 th , 2019 at Harbor Worship Center with Pastor Mike Sanes presiding. A private interment will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery.
