Mr. Thomas “Tom” Irvine Dean, Jr. passed away Thursday October 17, 2013 at Atlanta Medical Center.

Mr. Dean was born on January 8, 1931 in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Thomas Irvine Dean, Sr. and the late Vera May Cole Dean. Tom was a very active person who led a full life and was instrumental in starting the Baptist College of Charleston and coaching their first baseball team. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and of The Southern Baptist Seminary at Louisville with a degree in Administration. Tom was also a member of the Naval Reserve. He loved planting for wildlife and took joy in hand feeding his deer. Tom was a member of the local Moose Lodge, former local and state Chairman of Quail Unlimited. He was a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church in Wayside, GA.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Gail Bilderback Dean of Griffin; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Irvine Dean III (Connie) of North Augusta, SC, Charles David Dean of Griffin, Robert Ernest Dean (Ann) of Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Thomas Dean IV, Doary Dean Disbrow, Travis Greene, Dorothy Spires, Kellie Michelle Dean; great-grandchildren, Isabella and Day-Leigh Disbrow, Tyler , Micah , Cole and Brennan Dean; brother, Charles L. Price; sister, Virginia “Jinky” Horres; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life service for Mr. Tom Dean, Jr. will be held on Monday October 21, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home. Minister Ben Mitcham and Minister Don Banks are celebrants. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 pm until the celebration hour. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wayside Presbyterian Church, 1476 Old Hwy 11 Wayside, GA 31032 or a charity of your choice in Tom’s memory.
