Walter Bowen

Mr. Walter Bowen, Jr. of McDonough, GA went home to be with the Lord on November 17, 2013. He died peacefully in his sleep at Piedmont-Henry Hospital at the age of 94. He was a loving husband and devoted father. Mr. Bowen was born in Lilly, GA on March 8, 1919 to the late Walter H. Bowen and Lillian Shell Bowen. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Mary Etta Bowen; brothers, Wallace and Bobby Bowen and sister, Lillian Bowen. Mr. Bowen worked at Robbins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA for 33 years where he retired as an electronics manager. Walter and Mabel were instrumental in a church start in Bonaire, GA where they were active members for many years. After moving to McDonough, GA they attended Union Baptist Church and were active members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mabel Hunter Bowen; sons and their wives, Jerry and Sue Bowen of Hampton, GA and Joel and Karen Bowen of Flagler Beach, FL; grandchildren and their husbands, Susan and Halsey Burks of Dover, DE, Cindy and Lenny Fernandez of Suwanee, GA, and Richard Bowen of Flagler Beach, FL; great-grandchildren, Ethan Burks, Isabella and Cecilia Fernandez. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
